Throughout the four tough days of competition (28/29 Jan & 4/5 Feb) the Southport swimmers demonstrated the club is still one of the top clubs in the county. With numerous medals won and top 8 placings/finalists by the Southport contingent. One of the largest teams on show of over sixty swimmers, which everyone present could see. Southport ended in third top over all age group club, in a contentious point accumulation system. When the 17 and over age group counted for points in the age group trophy. So you had University students in the 20’s counting for points in the age group category. Not an equal playing field when a team can fill most of the top 8 places in that age group by uni students coming from elsewhere. Taking that into account, to still be placed just behind two City clubs, City of Salford and City of Manchester all the club can still be proud of the swimmers.
