NATIONAL ARENA LEAGUE 2018 NORTH WEST FINAL

WHAT A DAY IN THE CLUBS HISTORY

This being the premier swimming league in the Country. All the top teams teams throuout England take part on a regional basis in an attempt to make the National Finals.

Southport have made the North West Premier League final in all but one in the last 10 years, finishing no higher than 6th. It is a very strong league with some of the top City clubs competing. With an impressive first two rounds Southport went into the final ranked forth position at Blackpool on Sunday 9th December.

In the final were favorites and previous national Champions Stockport Metro, City of Salford previous National finalist, Warriors of Warrington and Preston both also previous National finalist. Wigan Best who have 6 smaller feeder clubs, The Isle of Man and a strong up and coming Winsford. Southport fought well for every point in the first batch of Team Races being placed overall in fifth position. Some strong Indivdual places pushed the towns team into 3rd position then dropped into 4th, but were in a great position to attack the final events. In the closing eight team race events the Soutport swimmers maintained a top three place in each event bar one, gaining extra points in some really exciting close finishes, pushing them to being, on the verge of a National Final place. Then with four events to go, one of the City of Salford teams got disqualified moving Southport even closer.

At the end of the 49 event final the points were announced.

1st place Stockport Metro (to be expected) 342, 2nd SOUTHPORT 238, 3rd City of Salford 237, Warrington Warriors 234, Wigan Best 215, Preston 190, Winsford 176, Isle of Man 165

Taking the club into the National Final as the North West runners up, for the first time in the clubs 140 year history !!!! Which will take place in Cardiff on Saturday 2nd March 2019.
